When I was young, I was always intrigued with why I was here, and more fundamentally who I was. The essence of these thoughts were captured in my diary at around age 12 when I wrote:‘To enjoy life you have to find yourself and be happy with what you find.’Forty years later I found myself reconnecting with, what that young me already knew. In-between time I have spent much of my life being someone other than me, creating a lived experience which frequently felt hollow and two dimensional. On paper my life was working, I had a good salary, I had a great team and as a nutritionist was selling a product that helped people, which was important to me. Yet despite all this and with nothing else to go to I made the decision to leave. For a lot of people, it made no sense, and my logical mind was in that camp too. Yet this quiet voice within knew it was the right thing to do. I listened to it and took the leap of faith I had been unable to take when I was younger and followed my heart. After leaving my job I trained as a coach and reconnected with my previous training as a Journey Practitioner. I received several hours of coaching myself and with this change in direction, support and meeting new people little by little I started to transform into something, that as corny as it sounds, genuinely felt like home.A shift was taking place where I was able to connect with my purpose and with this I started to become more curious about the possibilities that lay ahead of me, I let myself play with being creative and allowed myself to find things that I enjoyed doing, and sink into them, simply for the joy of it, for the love of it, just because I could. From this my coaching business grew as well as a love of being creative with pottery and picking up my camera again. This is my journey so far, I look forward to meeting you on yours ❤️

I was born in South Africa where the word Maphuta comes from, it is the Zulu name I was called when I was born, meaning ‘Little fat one’.It’s a place where I have found I can express myself and experiment with being creative. Purely for the fun of it and what I get out of it. The fact that others also like it is a pretty awesome byproduct which makes me happy. I’m new to it, I’m still learning what I like, I’m enjoying it.I’ve always loved photography, the ability to stop time, a moment captured that will never repeat again. There is something magical in that, even more so if the photo is a good one!Pottery is a great reminder to me about letting go as the end result is never a given. It’s much like life in that respect and I think it’s that lack of control that I have over the outcome, which I really like. From creating, to firing, to glazing there are many stages where things don’t always go as planned and yet this can also reveal the most amazing creations.
